Fears of Deception

It seems to be happening more frequently, but news reports on people being suprised that they've been lied to by strangers they met over the internet is completely unsuprising. People meet one another, become friends, and get married for absolutely no reason. Hence, high divorce rates. When you meet a random stranger, bad things could happen.

But arn't you concerned that you could fall prey to this?
No. If one is a good enough fake, one becomes authentic.

Poverty is dangerous because you lose power. The poor are not wretched soley because of thier insufficient means. They are wretched because they are easily exploited and controlled.

It is better to never use torture and lose lives, than to condone torture in a single instance, which will bring about a rational and spiritual decline. One could also keep the families of suspected terrorists hostage, and execute them if the suspect refuses to comply. But that would destroy us.

Those who die are heroes. They will have to paid an ultimate price to preserve our ideals. We must all be willing to be soldiers. We cannot have any fear. We must expect to die.

Let's Talk About degradation

I have seen complaints that pornography, music videos, and even drawings are 'degrading'.
Work is Degrading. Working in pornography is degrading, but so is being a waitress or a janitor.
The vast majority of work, at any rate. If one can obtain a job they genuinely enjoy and be paid enough to meet their needs, then work is not degrading. But realistically, the vast majority of people will be unable to do that. While we are guaranteed the persuit of happiness, there are no claims that we will be happy. In fact, most of us will not be. Should we be unhappy with life, we should have an absolute right to end it at any time.

How does on reconcile following a leader with critical thinking and individuality?

Not well. SUBSUME YOURSELF TO MY WILL AND MY OCCASSIONALLY UNCOMMON AND ESOTERIC WORD CHOICES

We are a society without fear. We recognize that life is struggle. Life is war. All of us are soldiers of freedom. We are not afraid to die. When the terrorists attacked us, they killed thousands. But we refused to be afraid. We took only the most cursory and non-invasive procedures. No arrests were made. Nothing was changed. Statistics were rolled out showing that the 3000 deaths were only the tiniest dent in our population growth. Our culture is unchallenged. We accepted the casualties as neccessary to protect our way of life. They rarely strike, but when they do, only they are afraid. They are afraid because we do not fear them, not even in the slightest. There is no screaming when they detonate thier bombs. We refuse to fight them, and they are too weak to destroy us. They have killed fewer than 10,000 of a nation of 300 million. Pathetic. They feel themselves to be waves washing up against the rocks. They have trouble recruiting people. Who wants to die for nothing, for no impact? We have conquered death, and with that conquest, all others follow.

We are in no danger of siesmic shifts. 90 percent of the public is made of stone, and will take generations to change. The culture war we fight now will not bear fruit in the short term. In fact, it may never be of any use.

They say we disrespect islam. That may be true. But the glory of the enlightenment is that we are free to disrespect one another without wading through a sea of blood.

Being opinionated is not a good thing.

It's not "white male domination" or even "male domination". Everyone is equally capable of being a master or a slave.

Musing On Evolution

I used to not like dogs very much. Sure my parents owned a dog, and I had been known to pat or pet a dog on ocassion, but I wasn't very fond of them. It wasn't that I found them a nuisance, I just found them unecessary. Then I read an interesting report which showed that after dogs split from wolves, humans had been selecting traits in dogs for millions of years. In short, they have been engineered by natural selection to be our companions. This brought me to an interesting realization.

Because any trait that humans would find appealing would be more likely to survive, cuteness would also be selected for. In fact, being cute could be the totality of a certain dog breeds survival strategies. Puppies are especially vulnerable, which is why they are especially cute.

This has made me like dogs a great deal more. They are evolutionarily designed to aid us in our physical and emotional surivival. They are man's first great experiment in genetic modification. Man has made dog, and it is good. And cute.

Why I rooted for the Iranian Football Team

And furthermore, why people 'protesting' against the iranians are not terribly bright.

The Iranian Theocracy, despite all outward appearances, hate football. Immediately after the end of the democratic phase of the revolution it was frowned upon and even briefly banned. Eventually the government realized that they did not want to force the iranian people to choose between football and the theocracy, because football would most likely win.

So, the theocracy grudginly accepted it, and now claims to support it. But it is clear that they do not, because it causes such disorder. After every iranian victory, there is dancing, drinking, singing and celebration. Men and women celebrate together for several days, and the government cannot control it because it is a massive patriotic outburst. It is difficult for them to restore order, and when the government is a repressive theocracy, disorder is good.

The Iranian National Football Team represents the people of iran, not the government. The government hates football as they hate most forms of fun. They are the islamic equivilant of puritians, which means that doing anything fun becomes a revolutionary activity.

It's all very complicated

Simple narrative and myth have replaced reality, monumentus crimes and acts of impossible heroism are prefered to everything being reduced to a swirling vortex in which absolute value judgements cannot exist.

You must love your enemy as he loves himself to understand him, to defeat him empirically rather than through luck or brute force.
